Two people were reported dead in a traffic accident on the Umuahia-Enugu Expressway by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Abia Sector Command.

In a statement released in Umuahia on Friday, Sector Commander Mrs. Ngozi Ezeoma revealed the information.

Twelve persons were hurt in the collision, which happened at the Ohiya at 3:50 p.m., she added.

A blue Toyota commercial bus was involved in the collision, which claimed two lives and injured twelve more, according to Ezeoma.

Ten adult males and four adult females were engaged in the collision, and one adult man was immediately pronounced dead.

When the FRSC rescue crew got on the scene within ten minutes of the incident, they took the deceased to the mortuary and the injured victims to the closest hospital for treatment.

“The hospital treating the injured victims confirmed to us that one male adult died while receiving treatment, bringing the total number of dead persons to two, following a hospital follow-up by FRSC.”

According to her, a preliminary investigation found that speeding and tire blowout were the causes of the collision.

Ezeoma reaffirmed the sector command’s resolve to lower the state’s traffic accident rate.

She wished the injured a quick recovery and expressed sympathy to the victims’ families.

Ezeoma urged drivers to follow traffic laws and regulations to the letter.
