Honorable Victor Oko Jumbo, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, has received the 2025 budget proposal from Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Governor Fubara is making his second budget presentation after taking office in May 2023.
The executive had written to the speaker asking for authorization to introduce the bill.
A four-member Assembly headed by Edison Ehie, who was acknowledged as Speaker by a State High Court, heard Governor Fubara’s first budget presentation last year.
The situation that has yet to be resolved was caused by the defection of 27 Assembly members from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All-Progressives Congress (APC), including then-Speaker Martin Amaewhule.
As the three House members who remained after Ehie’s departure defended their legitimacy by pointing to Section 109 of the 1999 Constitution (as modified), they said that in situations where defection occurs without a parent party crisis, the crisis grew more severe.
