Early this month, Governor Seyi Makinde put the 11 megawatt Ibadan Hybrid Power Project into service, and it is now operating.

The entire Oyo State Secretariat and its surroundings, including the Secretariat Clinic, the State House of Assembly, and the Governor’s office, have begun to enjoy an uninterrupted power supply, according to a statement released by Prince Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information and Orientation.

Governor Seyi Makinde’s pledge to start the State’s transition to power independence has been fulfilled with this development. According to the announcement, a 5MW integrated power plant that combines natural gas and solar energy will be the project’s initial phase.

Other vital government buildings, such as a few schools, the High Court complex, the Adeoyo and Ring Road Hospitals, and Adamasingba Stadium, will receive continuous power supply in the upcoming phase.

According to the Commissioner, the power project is being carried out by the State Government via the Ministry of Energy in collaboration with a private energy conglomerate using a structured Build Own Operate and Transfer (BOOT) model.
