The indigenes of Ibadan, under the banner of Ibadan Megal Voice (IMV), have earnestly reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, and other concerned stakeholders, urging them to support University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan during this troubling time.

In a heartfelt statement signed by IMV president, Kola Olomide, shared with DAILY POST, the group expressed deep concern over the hospital’s recent disconnection from the national electricity grid by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) on October 26 due to outstanding debts. This unfortunate situation marks the second time this year that the vital institution has faced such a disruption.

Olomide described the circumstances as not only embarrassing but also profoundly discouraging for both staff and patients alike. He called upon President Tinubu, Minister Pate, and key decision-makers to step in and help prevent the hospital from facing total collapse.

In his statement, Olomide offered some gentle suggestions for the management of UCH. He encouraged them to explore alternative energy solutions, such as solar power, to ensure that essential services and critical operations can continue uninterrupted. “It is troubling to see UCH facing electricity supply issues repeatedly, especially when it provides such crucial healthcare services to our community,” he expressed.

He emphasized the hospital’s significance as the largest medical facility in Ibadan and Oyo State, a beacon of hope for those in need of urgent medical attention. “We must rally together, support our hospital, and advocate for a solution that safeguards its future,” he stated.

Olomide further called upon all indigenes of Ibadan and Oyo State to unite in this effort, reflecting on the importance of community solidarity in times of crisis. He urged the UCH management to provide clarity on their financial situation, fostering an open dialogue about how to avert such challenges moving forward.

“Let’s not allow this essential institution to falter. Together, we can find ways to uplift UCH, ensuring it remains a pillar of healthcare in our beloved Ibadan and Oyo State.”
